MPI Forum

Session: MPI Forum

Event Type: Birds of a Feather

Time: 5:30pm - 7:00pm

Leader(s): Richard L. Graham

Location: D6

Abstract:
Since its passage in the mid 1990's, The Message Passing Interface standard (MPI) has become the ubiquitous inter-process communications Application Program Interface used by scientists in their simulation codes. With the changing hardware landscape and the inevitable ambiguities that arise while using and implementing such a standard, time has come to take another look at this standard, to clarify the existing 2.0 standard, and to decide if enhancements are needed to accommodate the ever-changing computing environment. The BOF will include a discussion of why the Forum is being restarted, its scope (clarifications, corrections, and/or extensions), how the Forum will conduct its business (electronic vs. face-to-face), voting procedures, as well as organizational structure. If time permits, we will also start to compile a list of items for the forum to take up.
